This brochure illustrates some examples of good practice in sustainable urban development in the EU.

More than two thirds of Europe’s population live in cities and towns and this share continues to grow.

The EU’s vision of the future global «New Urban Agenda» is based on the understanding that an integrated and placebased approach to sustainable urban development, together with a long-term vision, is necessary in order to promote inclusive and safe, green and resilient, prosperous and innovative cities that are well governed.

Sustainable urban development will not only drive the EU’s competitiveness in today’s changing world but also safeguard a high-quality of life for all of Europe’s citizens - both now and in the future.
