On behalf of the European Commission and the city of Seville, it is our pleasure to announce you that the pilot peer review workshop on Integrated Sustainable Urban Development Strategies that was held in Seville on 28-29 January 2016 was a successful event.

The peer-review workshop was organised in the context of the Urban Development Network, by the Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission together with the city of Seville. It was attended by 60 participants from 30 different cities.

The attendees were offered the opportunity to discuss and exchange on Integrated Sustainable Urban Development Strategies together with peer cities, urban experts and the Commission. The workshop's methodology was based on the peer-review methodology developed by the Joint Research Centre for Smart Specialisation strategies.

During the peer review exercise, Seville, Brno, Reggio Emilia, and Rotterdam presented their strategies in two parallel sessions (two per day) for open discussion and feedback by peer cities as well as experts. The peer cities were involved as equals and acted as 'critical friends'.

The discussion was steered by designated moderators, and a follow-up report will provide capitalisation of results for the cities under peer review. An online survey will be sent to all participants, which's outcome will be taken into consideration to further improve the peer review process. All the presentations, both from plenary and workshops sessions, are available here.
