Operational Programme 'North-West'
Under Convergence objective, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
The European Commission approved on 3 December 2007 a regional operational programme in the Czech Republic for the period 2007-2013, entitled the Regional Operational Programme "Northwest". This programme involves Community support for this region within the framework of "Convergence" objective. The total budget of the programme is around EUR 877 million and the Community investment through the ERDF amounts to EUR 745 million.
1. The purpose and aim of the EU investment
The overall objective consists in supporting the economic, social, territorially balanced and sustainable development of the Northwest region, according to its specific needs and resources, focusing on transport accessibility, urban and local regeneration, development of tourism. This objective will be achieved in close coordination with the actions implemented by other operational programmes at the national level.
2. The expected impact of the investment
The programme will ensure 20 km of new roads to be constructed and 130 km to be renovated. 35 km of new cycle-path will be built. Ca.25 ha of surface areas will be revitalized and regenerated. The programme will also significantly contribute to the attractiveness of towns in the region by supporting around 40 projects in cities with over 50 000 inhabitants.
The main priorities of the programme are to regenerate physical and social environments of the region, to increase the internal and external accessibility of the region and its transport serviceability. These improvements will contribute to higher mobility of citizens and to business activities within the region what will bring benefits and higher living standard for population of the region.
The Regional Operational Programme Northwest is structured according to the following priorities:
Priority 1: Urban regeneration and development
This priority concentrates on support to urban areas in the region-development poles and medium and small size towns. The priorities are revitalization and regeneration of towns and increasing the supply and quality of the infrastructure.
Priority 2: Integrated support of local development
The stress will be put on stimulation and balanced development of rural areas and their communities by implementing targeted integrated projects based on local needs. Development and improvement of the infrastructure and physical and cultural environment will also be tackled (for instance: street lighting, redevelopment of historical sites, improvement of education, social and health institutions...).
Priority 3: Accessibility and transport service ability
The objective is to focus on improvement of the connection of the region to surrounding areas securing efficient internal interconnection and its efficient transport accessibility particularly by public transport.
Priority 4: Sustainable development of tourism
Effective use of the region's natural and cultural potential should be exploited through this priority. This should be ensured by the development and modernization of tourism infrastructure, development of services for tourism and efficient marketing of the region.
Priority 5: Technical assistance
Technical assistance is also provided in order to implement the programme. Financial support is available covering administration, monitoring and control.
