Sustainable Urban Rural Partnership European Conference 2012

Introduction

Across the EU there is increased interest in the territorial dimension of regional policy. The European Commission is currently undertaking a study on "Partnership for sustainable urban-rural development" on the initiative of the European Parliament. The objective is to draw policy lessons concerning the potential role of urban-rural partnerships in improving regional competitiveness and territorial cohesion.

The European Commission wishes to launch a direct dialogue with Europe’s countries, regions and cities in order to discuss the role of rural-urban development in the cohesion policy for 2014-2020. A European seminar on "Sustainable Urban Rural Partnership" will take place in Metz (Lorraine region in France) on the 16th November 2012. This event will bring together around 200 participants, including high level European policy makers and representatives of urban and rural networks, associations and European institutions.

Speakers will include the French Minister of Territorial Equality and Housing, the President of Lorraine region, representatives of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, distinguished academics and high level officials from France, Italy, Latvia and Poland.
