Together with the Regional Studies Association, DG REGIO hosted the first ever OPEN DAYS Early Career Research Competition. With over 50 entries, the jury shortlisted 6 finalists who were invited to OPEN DAYS to present their work through a poster session in front of the jury. The winner, Frank Neffke from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, presented his work on structural transformation of regional economies. The runner-up, Emmanouil Tranos from the University of Newcastle, presented his work on the geography of internet infrastructure in Europe. Both have been awarded a cash prize and all finalists were presented with a certificate.
