    Description: An international conference on 10 October 2013 at the KULTurBRAUEREI Görlitz (Görlitz, DE) takes the experiences of cross-boarder cooperation in European boarder regions in the focus to enhance the cooperation along the boarder between Saxony and Lower Silesia. The event is hosted by the Saxon State Ministry of the Interior. Speakers at the conference include the Minister-President of the German Community in Belgium, the Polish author and researcher Krzysztof Wojciechowski, Dr. Robert Knippschild (scientific consultant of the project „Together for the Boarder Area“), Dr. Gerd Hager (Director of the Regional Association Central Upper Rhine), Dr. Joanna Pyrgiel and Sören Bollmann (Frankfurt-Słubice Cooperation Centre) as well as the President of the City of Bolesławiec Piotr Roman and the Lord Mayor of the City of Löbau Dietmar Buchholz.

    The conference takes place within the project “Together for the Boarder Area Lower Silesia-Saxony”. Lead partner of the project is the Marshall Office of the Lower Silesian voivodship. The project is funded by the Operational Programme for the Cross-Boarder Cooperation between Saxony and Poland 2007-2013 to improve the collaboration between the regional authorities of the neighbouring regions.     Description: After a general introduction by Karl Falkenberg, followed by 4 cases, three parallel sessions will target specific audiences. Technical sessions on techniques for characterization or remediation address environmental experts. Urban planners, policymakers and city representatives are invited to the session on communication and economical aspects.
    The second day focuses on the integration of different disciplines. Case studies will present how different disciplines are integrated in one approach. A panel with leading persons will discuss the necessity of changes in practice and policy. In the afternoon of the second day a site visit will be made to the ongoing remediation of the Waalse Krook site, a textbook case of integrated approach
