    This is Cohesion Policy. Improving the lives of EU citizens. In Romania, for example : Broadband access for disadvantaged areas in Romania

    The RO-NET project is building the infrastructure to provide broadband internet for people in so-called ‘white areas’ where there is no access to electronic communication networks. RO-NET covers 783 of the 2268 localities in Romania identified as white areas. The localities are spread across the whole country with the exception of Bucharest and the surrounding region.

    Driverless buses may soon be a familiar sight: researchers in Finland are testing such vehicles in real-life conditions, and they are keen to take the technology forward. Trials have been conducted for a few weeks at a time in Espoo, Helsinki and Tampere. With buses operating in mixed traffic on open roads, this project is one of the world’s most advanced initiatives of its kind.

  • Talk-show debate "Cohesion policy - 30 years of success, past and future"

    As part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of Cohesion policy in 2018, a talk-show debate looked at what the policy has achieved over the past three decades, as it was at the heart of each milestone in EU's history, from the creation of the Single Market to the successive enlargements.

    The debate, hosted by Commissioner Corina Crețu, brought together on stage several guests, among whom former Commissioners Michel Barnier and Danuta Hübner, President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani, Prime Minister of Portugal Antonio Costa and President of Committee of the Regions Karl-Heinz Lambertz.
