European Awards of Regional Innovation

For the first time in May 2004, the European Commission’s Regional Policy Directorate General granted the “European Awards for Regional Innovation” to the following nine regions:

Eastern Styria (Austria), Limousin (France), Saarland, Sachsen-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein (Germany), Overijssel (The Netherlands), Centro (Portugal), Extremadura (Spain) and Östra-Mellansverige (Sweden).

Following the succes of this first experience, the Commission decided to enlarge the scope of the award and include it in the RfEC initiative. The Regiostars award is now an annual event granting innovative projects in many different fields funded by ERDF.
