Building a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC)

Conference - Brussels, 19 June 2008

Introduction

The EGTC (European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation) is a new European legal structure enabling regional and local authorities from different Member States to set up cooperation groupings with a legal personality. They can facilitate and promote cross-border, transnational and interregional cooperation with a new approach to multilevel governance.

As part of our continuing efforts to promote the setting up of EGTCs, the European Commission and the Committee of the Regions, in partnership with the Slovenian Presidency, are organising an inter-institutional conference on EGTC in Brussels on 19 June 2008.

The objective of the conference is to open a political discussion, promote the understanding of mechanisms, exchange initial experiences and stimulate member states to adopt national provisions provided for by the Regulation.
