Through this call for papers, the European Commission's Regional Policy Directorate General invites interested individuals or institutions to send paper proposals for the conference "Regions for economic change: 'Fostering competitiveness through innovative technologies, products and healthy communities" to be held on 7 and 8 March 2007 in Brussels. Presentations should be based on project, case study or other experiences at regional, local or interregional level in the context of the conference themes. The aim of this call is to select up to 30 presentations from various EU regions on the broadest possible geographical basis.
The call is open between 8 December 2006 and 15 January 2007. Selected speakers will be informed before the end of January 2007 and will subsequently be requested to send full papers and/or presentations before mid-February 2007.
Interested persons are invited to send their proposals before 15 January 2007, 12:00 (CET). The European Commission will base the final selection on the quality of these abstracts and the expertise of the speakers.
On 31 January 2007, the selected speakers will be finally informed and invited to present their contributions during a conference workshop together with other 4-5 speakers from different regions and institutions on 7 and 8 March 2007 in Brussels. Each of the workshops will last two hours and half of the time will be dedicated to discussion.
The expected audience will on average consist of 100 experts in the field of regional development, such as Structural Funds’ managing authorities, European institutions and associations in the field. European Commission officials will usually chair the workshops. The interpreted languages during the workshops will be English, French and German.
The European Commission will cover the travel expenses and accommodation costs of the invited speakers and offers organisational support through the Conference Secretariat (link to page contact) No other fees will be paid.
The speakers’ final contributions (power-point presentations and/or articles) will have to be sent before 15 February 2007, 12:00 (CET). They will be published on this website and other sources (paper publication, CD).
