Regional programme Centre 2014-2020

Programme description

The Programme aims to boost economic growth in the region and to contribute to achieving the Europe 2020 targets for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. Through investments that will support the knowledge economy, SMEs and the transition towards a low carbon economy, It should create jobs and boost productivity. EU funding will be targeted according to the unique strengths and development needs of the region.

Funding priorities

The Programme will focus on seven main priorities:

  • Enhance a knowledge society through investments in R&DI according to their smart specialisation strategy
  • Boost job creation in SMEs
  • Support to e-society
  • Transition to a low carbon economy
  • Sustainable integrated urban development
  • Stimulate an inclusive and learning society: Support for apprenticeships – including reducing drop-out rates from the current 20% and encouraging apprentices to continue into tertiary education – will boost work-relevant skills and qualifications. The region will create a coordinated network of training and employment guidance providers to ensure a seamless set of services for individuals throughout their careers. Lifelong learning opportunities will be deployed to raise skills and employability among all age groups, especially for the long-term unemployed and older people
  • Accompany youth towards jobs: Youth in the region have lower qualifications than the national average, so training initiatives will be deployed to help young jobseekers get the qualifications that the regional labour market is seeking. Job placements and internships will be available to help them acquire workplace skills and ease their transition into jobs.
