Rural-Urban Partnership in the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region

The Nuremberg Metropolitan Region is home to 3.5 million people, living in 22 counties and 11 towns and cities. RURBAN is strengthening the Region’s economic viability, while helping to preserve its unique character, for example by supporting local farms and other small companies. Food is one of the areas where rural and urban zones remain most strongly linked. The ‘Of Regional Origin’ programme increases the consumption of local food, which benefits both the Region’s rural and urban areas.

The ERDF is also supporting local tourism initiatives. It co-funded the ‘EntdeckerPass’ (or 'Discoverer Pass') which allows inhabitants to visit 120 tourist and leisure sites in the Region, including the Levi Strauss Museum in Buttenheim, using the public transport system.
