FET Open and FET Proactive info day

The Research Executive Agency (REA) organised this event in cooperation with the Commission Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content & Technology (DG Connect). The focus was on the calls for proposals to be launched in 2016 by the Future and Emerging Technologies Open (FET Open) and the topic ‘Emerging themes and communities’ of the FET Proactive schemes.

The event targeted potential applicants for the call for Research and Innovation Actions (RIA) and for Coordination and Support Actions (CSA) under FET Open and FET Proactive under the topic 'Emerging themes and communities'. The FET Open calls for Research and Innovation Actions (RIA) and for Coordination and Support Actions (CSA) will have their first cut-off date on 11 May 2016 and the FET Proactive call on 12 April 2016.

FET Open supports early-stage collaborative scientific research aimed at radically new future technologies. Projects can involve a wide range of new technological possibilities, inspired by cutting-edge science, unconventional collaborations or new research and innovation practices.

FET Proactive nurtures emerging themes, seeking to establish a critical mass of European researchers in a number of promising exploratory research topics. This activity supports areas that are not yet ready for inclusion in industry research roadmaps, with the aim of building up and structuring new interdisciplinary research communities.

The FET Proactive call in 'emerging themes and communities' includes four areas:

  • Area 1: Future technologies for societal change
  • Area 2: Biotech for better life
  • Area 3: Disruptive information technologies
  • Area 4: New technologies for energy and functional materials
