Quick location of earthquake survivors

A device created by EU scientists detects earthquake victims trapped under rubble at a record-breaking speed

The SGL for USaR research team has developed a portable device for locating earthquake victims trapped under rubble.

The new technology measures air levels under buildings' rubble and detects specific chemicals released only by humans.

The conducted tests have been considered a success.

Collateral effects of catastrophes such as the Haiti earthquake in 2010, which killed over 230,000 people, are now expected to be minimised.

The project has been supported by €4.9 million in EU funds.
