Green solution for drinking water transportation

EU-backed researchers design an easy-to-carry plastic barge to transport drinking water to islands

An EU-funded research project, Refresh, has developed a new solution for the fresh water transportation by sea: an easy-to-clean, easy-to-transport plastic barge particularly suitable for islands and coastal areas.

The developed prototype, a 200 cubic metre modular and recyclable super strong zip waterbag intended to be towed by tugboats, has been already tested in Greek waters. 'On a commercial scale our water bag could contain ten times more,' says the project representative, Samuele Ambrosetti.

The results are promising.
