An EU-funded project, RapidCool, has developed a cooler which chill drinks from room temperature to 4˚C in under a minute.
The RapidCool device not only makes drinks cold in a record time, but also consumes over 80% less energy than open coolers, and 54% less compared to glass door coolers.
Consumer trials are planned to start in a supermarket in the Netherlands this autumn.
The consortium is also developing versions of the cooler to be used at home as well as in bars, restaurants, and hotels.
