New 'old' health boosters

Fighting obesity and diabetes with lupin seeds

Lupin, a grain cultivated in the days of the Roman Empire, could be used in the fight against obesity, diabetes and food allergies.

The scientists involved in the LUPIN-CHALLENGE project are exploring the health-promoting potential of a protein found in lupin seeds which, according to the researchers, helps increase insulin sensitivity and reduce appetite.

Follow-up studies might help design lupin-enriched diets for people with obesity and diabetes problems.
