The Eggsterilisationresearch team has developed a new technology that kills all eggshell germs.
The method is fast, safe and cheap and avoids having to cook the eggs to eliminate bacteria.
It may increase food safety by preventing infections such as those caused by Salmonella bacteria.
The method is based on the use of plasma, the most common state of visible matter in the Universe.
The project will receive over €1.5 million in EU funding with a goal to increase food safety.
