EU boost to nanotechnology

EU-funded researcher develops structures that might lead to a breakthrough in 'nanosciences'

In the framework of COMPNANOALD, Dr Imre Miklós designed novel nanomaterials (materials built from very small particles) for self-cleaning walls, detection of hazardous gases or harvesting solar energy.

The researcher created precise thin films by applying an Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) technique, of which the potential in nanotechnology had not been, to date, fully exploited.

The EU grant he benefited from allowed him to 'push the frontiers of ALD significantly further', affirms the scientist.
