New hope for treating nerve injuries
An EU-funded project looks at novel material for tissue engineering

Dr Gillian Hendy is developing a novel material for tissue engineering which can speed up recovery after a nerve injury.

Supported by COMET, an EU-funded research project, she has already tested various biodegradable materials which could be used as implants to help severely injured nerves regenerate fast enough to prevent muscle atrophy.

The project's findings could contribute to developing new treatments not only for people threatened with limb amputations, but also for patients suffering from Alzheimer and Parkinson.
