Could flies be bred as gardeners, weeding undesirable pests from the crop? Yes, they can.
This is at least what doctor Peter Tóth, an assistant professor at the Slovak University of Agriculture, believes.
The research results he has gathered within BIOBROOM, a project supported by €160,000 from the EU's Marie Curie Actions research fund, seem to offer promising solutions for crop protection to farmers fighting against broomrape parasite weeds.
