Air crash drill to 'devastate' French-Italian border
The ESS project, a security research project managed by the REA, is to coordinate a mock rescue operation in the framework of an air crash field test planned for next week in Sospel, a town close to Nice. The accident is to ‘start’ a forest fire in France, and to ‘launch’ a toxic cloud over Vescavo, a village in Italy.
The project, backed by more than € 9 million in EU funds, will test the efficiency of a new technology for collection, analysis and sharing of real time data supporting emergency-related decision making. The simulated exercise, planned for Thursday next week, will mobilise French and Italian police, medical services and fire brigades.More
