Horizon 2020, with a budget of €77bn from 2014 – 2020, is the biggest EU research and innovation programme ever and one of the largest worldwide. Horizon 2020 promotes Europe’s scientific and technological excellence to extend the frontiers of human knowledge, boost the EU’s economic competitiveness, address societal challenges and remove barriers to innovation, including between the public and private sector. The European Commission will set up a High Level Group of experts who will advise on how to maximise the impact of the EU's investment into research and innovation. The Group will be chaired by Pascal Lamy, President Emeritus of the Jacques Delors Institute, the Commission decided on 21 September 2016. Read more

The European Commission presented today key policy recommendations that will help enhance the performance of Hungary in research and innovation. These recommendations were requested by Hungary under the Policy Support Facility (PSF), a new instrument under Horizon 2020, the EU's research and innovation programme. Read more

The European Union (EU) Contest for Young Scientists, an initiative of the European Commission, was set up to promote the ideals of co-operation and interchange between young scientists. Read more

The European Commission is awarding €32 million to bring innovative ideas to market quicker. The 15 benefiting projects, involving 70 partners in 19 countries, will receive around €2 million each under the fifth round of the Fast Track to Innovation (FTI) scheme. Read more

ISOLDE, CERN's transformer of elements, is about to be itself transformed: a major upgrade is under way. A large share of the R&D underpinning this overhaul was conducted by young researchers who contributed as part of the EU-funded CATHI project. This training network enabled 21 applicants to gain hands-on experience in their chosen field. Read more
