The European Union, through the Horizon 2020 programme, is investing €45 million in research to combat the outbreak of the Zika virus disease and other emerging infections transmitted by mosquitoes. The significant funding from the EU's research and innovation programme will support research on treatments, diagnostics and vaccines, as well as better risk assessment for Zika. Read more

Researchers of the EU-funded Sound of Vision project have won the Best Paper Award at XXI CIM, the 21st Colloquium on Music Informatics. The project is working on digital solutions that create and convey an auditory representation of the surrounding environment. This could assist visually impaired people. Read more

The European Commission has today launched a public stakeholder consultation which will feed into the interim evaluation of Horizon 2020, the EU's €77 billion research and innovation funding scheme running from 2014 to 2020. This interim evaluation will help improve the functioning of Horizon 2020, and will also be an important element in preparations of a next EU research and innovation programme. Read more
