Programme: Europe for Citizens
Identifier: 600790-CITIZ-1-2018-1-PL-CITIZ-CIV
Title: Strengthening civil society rights by information access for European youth
Summary
Overall objective:To increase the level of awareness, knowledge, and ability to use the right of access to public information and support freedom of information (FoI) among youth. The project will contribute to increase of the level of understanding and activity of young citizens regarding public monitoring of state institutions and local government.Problem statement and the proposed solution:The basis of a strong, properly functioning democratic state is transparency. It ensures social control that public institutions perform their functions and duties by applicable law. Also, social accountability is an approach towards building accountability that relies on civic engagement in which citizens participate directly or indirectly in demanding accountability from service providers and public officials. The solution for wider use of public information and monitoring tools should be provided by education and dissemination of relevant methodologies within youth sector. This project application is the result of official EfC “Making the Waves” seminar in Riga 2017 and includes mainly Baltic Sea region countries, but due to a high level of competence partner from Belgium is also part of consortia.Project activities:Project activities: will focus on rights and access to public information, stimulation of youth e-participation, participatory budgeting, media involvement tools for monitoring. Events will include the format of round-table discussion and workshops to exchange youth's views about democratic participation, FoI, and access to public information. Followed by two international conventions on best-practice share and benchmarking, Code of Good Practice and report of prioritized transparency needs at EU level. With the project, we wish to impact mostly youth- directly we will reach over 445 people and ca.50.000 indirectly via social media, website, press releases, and dissemination activities and events.
