Programme: Europe for Citizens
Identifier: 562849-CITIZ-1-2015-1-FI-CITIZ-REMEM
Title: From War History to Modern Education
Summary
Aim of the project is to research and gather information related to the Second World War from target regions (Finland and Estonia). From this information we will write comparative scientific report and analysis. The main purpose is to research how war has affected children (from 8- to 18-year-olds at the time of the Second World War) and how would they have wanted to be told about the war when they were children. From this perpective we will make an educational comic book and roleplay/LARP that can be used to teach war history in schools etc. The purpose is to tell about war in a way that children and young adults can understand it. Languages are English and Finnish. We will also create a website which contains the digital comic book and other information about war. The website contains gamelike material and therefore the focus group can easily learn more about the subject. The website is also linked to Rautjärvi, Tartu and Harju locations which are significant to war history. We will also pilot a new drama tour connected to war history in Rautjärvi to children from age 8 to 18. In the drama tour we are testing how children experience and learn through drama. After this we will arrange two seminars in Finland and Estonia to share the scientific results and the educational side. In the end, we will publish all the materials to free dissemination. If we get positive results from this, we can continue the work we have started. In this political situations it is extremely important to tell children and young adults from war in a way they can understand it. Understandin reduces irrational fear. We are hoping that by understanding the children and young adults of Europe will make a stand against war rather than fear or avoid the topic. At this moment we have disseminating partners from 14 countries (in EU) and we are hoping to disseminate comic book and role playing game for 40 000 - 50 000 children and young adults in EU.
