The volunteering sector plays a key role in social life of our society today. It not only makes an impact on the greater community, but it also affects your family and friends directly. Volunteer activities bring together people who might not otherwise have contact with one another. It significantly contributes to the global economy; it enhances the social connections between different sectors; it builds the bridges for governments, enterprises and employees; it builds a more cohesive, safer, stronger community, increase the social network between communities and neighborhood; it promotes people to be more active in civic engagement; it delivers some part of public services, encouraging more people to work in public section, helping raise the educational performance of youth, leading environmental movement and adapting to climate change risk; it also has positive effects on volunteers as individuals, increase their self-esteem, enhances various skills and capacities and expands careers. Those were the main topics and results of a 3-day meeting held in Sračinec, Croatia regarding volunteering. 215 participants from 4 different countries: Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary and Bosna and Hercegovina came to a mutual conclusion of the projects is that the social fabric can only be strengthened by practices that bridge our socioeconomic divides.Aim of the project was to foster European citizenship and improve conditions for civil and democratic participation at Union level by promoting opportunities for societal and intercultural engagement by volunteering at Union level, which was achieved by 215 direct participants. Over 5.000 citizens in 4 Municipalities which have visited the web pages and/or received info materials on the project were also impacted by the project results. Participating partner organizations were countries, which are aware that the voluntary sector is still emerging and are trying to bring awareness about the necessity of such civic activity and stop it from being poorly developed. The project raised awareness on needed citizens’ intervention in times of crisis when national responses seems insufficient and contributed to overcoming negative perceptions of the volunteering which has much room to grow in participating countries. The main result of the project are volunteering development guidelines, which were send to Croatian, Slovenian and Hungarian EU Parliament members: •To establish national portal for promotion of existing volunteers and motivation of potentially new volunteers•To include volunteering as obligatory professional practice in high school or/and university, included min 2 weeks of volunteering in order to familiarize young people with volunteering, as well as gaining work habits •To produce national 2020 volunteering strategy in accordance with EU guidelines and Operative plan of every measure
