Summary
The Municipality of Tisno from Croatia and the Town of Velké Meziříčí from Czech Republic became twin towns in 2012 and since then we had organized more then 20 meetings, exchange of students or sportsmen, cultural visits and earlier this year, in February, we had our first Europe for Citizens project named Be Active and it was held in Velké Meziříčí. The achievements of this project are definitely strenghtening of the connections between two twin towns, deepening of the knowledge of common history and learning about new history of Croatia and the bloodiest war in Europe after WW2, sharing our tradition and customs by sharing our cultural heritage. We aimed for increasing awareness of the importance of the stakeholders role in the society and promoting the values of active citizenship and democracy and we succeded.We discussed about lot of topics, espacially about the immigrants and the current crisis in EU. The topic of Future of Europe was also a part of particular interest among younger participants, and the result of the discussion is that only if we stick together we can overwhelm the crisis. The project results are actually cultural performances for which the participants were working very hard to present their culture, but also their human values as they are acting as volunteers. All the performances were very well accepted and they made new friends and dealed new collaborations between the two associations. There were 40 participants from each partner town, in total 80, but occasionally the number of direct participants was more then 100. Counting the indirect participants which were involved during the cultural performances or during visits we come close to 1000 indirectly involved citizens which is great regarding the total number of 3100 inhabitants.
