Summary
The „United in culture in EU“ project was held from 7 to 9 September 2018. The project involved participants from Croatia, Slovenia (Občina Tržič i Občina Laško) and Serbia (Association „Danube 1245“ Sremski Karlovci). A total of 107 participants from Slovenia and Serbia participated in the project. The number of direct participants in the project was 210, while indirectly 350 participants participated.The main objective of the project was to bring together participants from different countries and of different nationalities and cultures who expressed their views on the cultural heritage of the EU and presented local cultural values and promoted cultural diversity. The intention of the project was to show the citizens from Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia the diversity of people, cultures, customs of the countries which are united in the EU and which have become EU citizens in the process of accesion to the EU. Also, through the implementation of the project „United in culture in EU“ applicant organisation tried to preserve local cultural heritage of all countries which falling into oblivion and negligence under the influence of modernization. The specific objectives of the project were: to bring together European citizens of different nationalities and languages through participation in various activities, to create common European identitiy, to strengthen our understanding of different cultures, to introduce each partner through presentation of their own customs, traditions, lifestyle and to protect cultural heritage. The general and specific objectives of the project were achieved through lectures given by EU experts and representatives, workshops that were based on the World Cafe and cycle way methods to discuss the impact of culture on everyday life and the creation of European identity through the respect for European heritage. These activities contributed to the development of intercultural dialogue and common identity through the creation of a shared sense of belonging to the community, and thus to EU citizenship.
