Summary
The original proposal had foreseen 17 activities. Two of them were enlarged to two activities each; one activity was cancelled and three more activities were added. In total and as a result of the project, CIDOB organized 32 activities. CIDOB organized four conferences within the activity ‘What is going on in the world?’ and nine working breakfasts within the activity ‘European Breakfast’. In total, CIDOB organized 32 activitiesCIDOB covered the two lines included in the 2017 proposal. The first line covered the current challenges to European integration and provided substantive understanding vis-à-vis the European construction and possible ways forward for the current disintegration threats. Within this line CIDOB organized the following activities (14):- EU reform after the crises: political debates and policy proposals. 9th CIDOB-SWP Dialogue.- Elections Shaping the Future of Europe: Catastrophe Avoided, Challenge Accepted.- After the crisis, a push forward for the Eurozone.- After the Crisis, a Push Forward for the Eurozone. Conference by Jean Pisani-Ferry.- Post-crisis attitudes towards the EU: United in adversity?- Secession and Counter-Secession: An International Relations Perspective.- How are European Societies Countering Jihadist Terrorism?- Islam in Europe: European Islam?- Russia, 25 years after the fall of the USSR.- Europe Reset: New Directions for the EU.- The role of the United Nations in the face of today's global challenges with Cristina Gallach.- EU-China in the New International context with Jo Leinen.- The Mediterranean Crisis: the refugee challenge facing Greece with Giovanni Lepri.- Why and how should we repair the Eurozone with Pervenche Berès.The second line of work was aimed at increasing the European citizens’ awareness of the external crisis affecting Europe and how could Europe enhance its role at the global stage. In order to better comprehend the challenge that current global crisis can have on Europe CIDOB organized the following activities (16).- The EU-Turkey Agreement. One year after.- Cities of refuge in the EU context. Towards a more inclusive approach?- Is Putin’s Russia an alternative model for Europe?- The European Urban Agenda in Light of Habitat III and the 2030 Agenda.- Climate Futures: Financing the Low-carbon Energy Transition.- Climate Futures: Mobilising Private Investment in Low-carbon Infrastructure.- Resilient Cities: Countering Violent Extremism at Local Level.- Migration, Health and Cities.- Wise Cities and Universal Basic Income.- The common European asylum policy: Towards greater harmonization and solidarity?- New era between Cuba and the EU: Future scenarios.- Stateless nations in the era of globalization: the case of Ireland, Scotland and Catalonia with Dominic Keown.- Europe in the new world order: thinking the unthinkable with Wolfgang F. Danspeckgruber.- Iran and the War in Syria: What’s Next? with Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani.- Reactions to a Changing World: U.S. and European Public Opinion toward Globalization, Political Change and Transatlantic Relations with James Bell.- Geopolitics in the Middle East and the role of Europe: a view from the Iraqi Kurdistan with Falah Mustafa Bakir.CIDOB produced 5 publications linked to the activities of the Europe for Citizens programme and 7 videos with testimonies and interviews of the participants; 25 publications dealing with European affairs and related to some of the activities; and published 25 biographies and reached a total of 1.532 direct participants and 26.367.582 indirect participants.
