Key Action: Learning Mobility of Individuals
Action Type: VET learner and staff mobility

Summary

The project was realized by a consortium including six secondary VET schools in the Marche region.
It realized 142 mobility for students aged 18-19; they stayed for 5 summer weeks in 2016 in Germany, Austria, France, Spain, United Kingdom, Lithuania. The experience provided linguistic and cultural preparation activities in the first week, and a 4 weeks full-time internship in local companies.
The project aimed at activating and developing professional and soft skills suitable to increase employability in the integrated tourism industry, through which the region's tourist attractiveness can grow.
Main goals were therefore not only the acquisition of knowledge and abilities related to the specific study courses attended, but mainly interpersonal, team working, problem solving skills, foreign language and digital skills, the strengthening of individual personalities by meeting challenges in new and different contexts, and cultural / intercultural openness.
The complementarity of professional careers and competences related to the integrated tourism view, has been reflected in the different study courses of the participants: one third tourist-cultural area (tourism, hospitality, high school foreign languages), for more than one third management / marketing area and company information systems, and the remaining food and beverages and social services.
In Italy, before the departure, were carried out language preparatory activities with mother tongues teachers (in addition to OLS course), pedagogical preparatory activities, and thematic seminars involving local consortium partners.
Ecvet procedures have been applied in the preparation of the internship. Mobility has been considered as a learning unit and as such integrated into the School-Work Alternance frame. The company's activities were as close as possible to the participants' field of education, observed and guided by a business mentor who assessed the learning outcomes at the end of the internship.
Each sending school has recognized the experience through a credit in the main school technical subject and a credit in the state examination admission range.
Certificates issued (including the Europass Mobility Document) represent for all the participants an added value to the personal portfolio for entering the workplace or continuing a training course in Higher Technical Education.
The final feedback of the participants highlighted that the experience abroad had impacted not only on the knowledge and professional skills of each learner, but on self-esteem, personal responsibility, and autonomy because it was mainly an opportunity for self-learning and a training to deal with daily challenges.
Participants and school referents reported positive evaluations of other learning opportunities offered by the project to learners: the possibility of facing with working realities different from Italian ones, improving language skills and interpersonal skills, intercultural experience to overcome prejudices.
For participating organizations the sharing of the project implementation has triggered changes in terms of modernization and international openness, an enrichment of competences for future projects and a strengthening of dialogue between the school institution, the business world and society.
