Important legal notice

EU Register of nutrition and health claims made on food

The Register contains all the health claims assessed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for which the authorisation procedure is finished.

EFSA assesses health claims on the basis of the applications for authorisation and the evidence submitted to it. That is why the Register may list health claims relating to the same food, nutrient, substance/ food category, and health effect in 2 sections: authorised and rejected claims. In such cases, the authorisation prevails and the authorised claim can be used if its conditions of use are respected. The Register shows the latest status of the claim.

Legal status of the Register

The Register is for information only.

Only the relevant EU legal acts determine the legal status of nutrition and health claims made on foods and are the legal basis authorising or prohibiting their use in the EU. These however, are not decisions on the marketing of substances on which claims are made.

The Register is updated regularly. Sections will be completed, as appropriate, depending on the decisions on health claims.

You can also view claims that are under Commission and Member States consideration as well as related comments not yet yet been included in the register.
