Designing strategic investments for the future of healthcare
On 27 February 2017, the Commission, in cooperation with the European Investment Bank (EIB), held a seminar to discuss new forms of investment for innovative forms of healthcare. The event promoted the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), under the Investment Plan for Europe, as an effective financial instrument to support reforms in European health systems. Over 100 delegates participated in the event, from the public and private sectors: Member States authorities, healthcare managers and service providers, as well as investors active or interested in the health sector.

How much do Europeans exercise?
While almost half (49.8%) of the population aged 18 or over in the European Union (EU) did not do any sport, almost a third (29.9%) spent at least two and a half hours per week of leisure time doing physical activities in 2014, according to this latest Eurostat report.

At EU-level, 'health' expenditure remained the second largest item of general government expenditure after expenditure on 'social protection' in 2015. In the EU-28, total expenditure of general governments on 'health' amounted to 7.2 % of GDP.
