Call for papers, until 15 November: University College Dublin National Forum on Integrated Care

The Forum will be held on 5 December and invites those leading in the delivery of integrated health and social care programmes and initiatives to submit a short abstract in the form of a summary of no more than 500 words.

4th conference on European Reference Networks (Brussels, 21 – 22 November 2018)

The 4th ERN Conference opens a new stage in the networks' lifecycle. Registration is now closed, but see the event via web streaming.

Dissemination Workshop on Occupational Safety and Health and Continuing Professional Development (Brussels, 3 December 2018)

Organised by The European Hospital and Healthcare Employers' Association and The European Public Service Union, this workshop will take stock of the outcomes of two EU-funded projects on occupational safety and health, as well as Continuing Professional Development.

The Health Equity Pilot Project - Final Conference (Brussels, 6 December 2018)

The conference is entitled "Evidence into practice- Action on Health Inequalities" and will address issues like why it is important to address behaviour-related health inequalities and actions to reduce behaviour-related health inequalities.

EU Press Releases

Steering Group on Health Promotion, Disease Prevention and Management of Non-Communicable Diseases holds first formal meeting

Formalised as a formal Commission expert group in July 2018, the Steering Group met in Luxembourg on 6 November 2018. Member State representatives, several Commission services and the European Investment Bank discussed a wide range of public health policies and initiatives.

Public consultation on legislation on medicines for children and rare diseases launched

The joint evaluation of the legislation on medicines for children and rare diseases (medicines for special populations – orphan medicines) is an important step in the process of assessing EU rules for these medical areas.

EU and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation join forces to support health services in Africa

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will contribute €54 million ($62.5 million) to EU efforts to strengthen diagnostic health services in Sub-Saharan Africa under the External Investment Plan.

New publications

Expert Panel on Effective ways of Investing in Health publishes Opinion on the European Reference Networks model

The Expert Panel concluded that it was premature to draw conclusions on the effectiveness of the networks and sought, instead, to look at lessons learned and how other networks with similar goals operate within Member States.

New briefs added to The Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Knowledge Gateway

The Gateway recently published a series of briefs on Dietary Salt, Dietary Fats as well as Alcoholic Beverages. Knowledge Gateway briefs include useful and well-structured information on critical issues.
