2017: A Year of focused Actions to combat violence against women

Violence against Women and Girls is one of the most widespread and devastating human rights violations across the globe. It is estimated that one in three women have experienced violence at some point in their lives. That is why, last year, on the International Day to Combat Violence against Women, Věra Jourová, European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality launched the initiative to dedicate 2017 to combating violence against women.

Friday 3 November is European Equal Pay Day

Today, the average hourly pay of women in Europe is 16.3% lower than that of men. European Equal Pay Day, which falls on 3 November this year, marks the moment when women effectively stop getting paid compared to their male colleagues, with almost two months of the year remaining.

European Commission at World Pride Madrid 2017

Today, the European Commission is participating in the International Human Rights Conference, which is taking place in Madrid as part of World Pride 2017. Call for 4-Year Framework Partnership Agreements to support European networks through operating grants

On 7 March 2017, DG Justice and Consumers has opened a new call for proposals under the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme to establish new 4-year Framework Partnership Agreements with EU-level networks. This is the second of its kind under the current Multi-Financial Framework 2014-2020.

"EU Projects on Violence Against women – Learning for Meaningful Change": A participatory meeting bringing together managers of EU-funded projects on violence against women

On 6 June 2016, DG Justice and Consumers' Gender Equality Unit organised a meeting entitled "EU Projects on Violence Against Women – Learning for Meaningful Change", bringing together 55 managers of EU funded campaigns against violence and Daphne projects running from 2012 to 2015. The event was moderated by Policy Officers Emilie Jarrett and Anne Van Nistelrooij of the Gender Equality Unit, and Conrad Taft of DG HR. The event was held in a participatory format, meaning that attendees largely shaped the content of the day in which the aim was to harvest knowledge and best practice for future project funding.
