For the past few months, the Commission has been working with the Member States to integrate the latest ISO 14001 revisions into the EMAS Regulation. I am pleased to tell you that this process is now complete, and that the updated EMAS annexes are available.

|
The EMAS Fitness Check, an extensive evaluation of EMAS's performance, was published in June. The evaluation reviews the achievements of the scheme and identifies a few improvement points that will help shaping the future of EMAS.

UPM communicates on its societal impacts through EMAS
|
The Finnish forestry company UPM has published EMAS environmental statements for four of its sites that, in addition to information regarding environmental performance, also include locally relevant information on societal aspects. Their example may be followed by other organisations.

New Sectoral Reference Document (SRD) available for the Food and Beverage sector News
|
The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre has published a Sectoral Reference Document for the Food and Beverage sector showcasing the industry’s best environmental management practices. Performance indicators and benchmarks of excellence are provided and the SRD gives tips on how to take them into account when implementing EMAS.
