Since 2011, the European Commission has been developing guidance on Best Practices in environmental management for a number of priority sectors. It is now looking at ways to build on this wealth of knowledge and would like to gather the needs of organisations. For the first time, the climate change conference has been organised in compliance with EMAS, meaning that the organisers have looked at all aspects of its environmental impact such as energy and resource consumption, legal compliance and stakeholder engagement.

Four South Korean companies complete EMAS registration
|
It is the first time that organisations with their headquarters outside the European Union are EMAS registered. The companies benefited from a one-year training program supported by the Germany Ministry of the Environment (BMUB) which promotes the use of EMAS in Asia.

New EMAS Case study: LA PAGE ORIGINAL

The Helpdesk published a case study demonstrating how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can easily access and benefit from EMAS. With the example of LA PAGE ORIGINAL, one of the smallest EMAS registered organisations it aimed to encourage other small businesses to join the EMAS community.

EMAS contributes to the transition to a circular economy
|
With the report Moving towards a circular economy with EMAS, the European Commission wants to highlight the contribution of EMAS organisations to the circular economy. The report features best practice examples and case studies, and can be used both by organisations willing to transform themselves and public authorities willing to support the transition to a circular economy.

The first EMAS and EU Ecolabel ceremony in Luxembourg
|
The event, which awarded EMAS and EU Ecolabel certificates to Luxembourg organisations for the first time, was organised to increase the awareness to EMAS and sustainability management in Luxembourg. Further events can follow as EMAS and the EU Ecolabel have potential to expand.

Step up now from ISO 14001 to EMAS!
|
With the revised annexes of the EMAS regulation, organisations certified with the environmental management standard ISO 14001 can easily step up to EMAS. Only a few additional requirements, which make EMAS unique, need to be fulfilled. The publication of an environmental statement is notably one of the transparency requirements that organisations have to fulfil to upgrade to EMAS.

The European Commission launched the website takeagreenstep.eu to help tourism businesses like hotels and restaurants improve their environmental performance. The website provides many resources, such as case studies, best practices and tools, which can be easily and quickly used by tourism businesses.
