European Broadband Awards 2017 winners were announced at the Award Ceremony on 20 November. The European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Crețu and Commissioner for Agriculture & Rural Development, Phil Hogan awarded the five winners in Brussels. The five projects were selected in five categories focusing on innovative models of financing, cost reduction, territorial cohesion, socio-economic impact and competition. These projects are exemplary projects for the other regions and organisations planning broadband rollout.
European Commission joins forces to help bringing more broadband in rural areas
The European Commission has set up broadband competencies offices to advise local and regional authorities on ways to develop broadband, and help citizens and businesses get better internet. At the same time Commission presented a 5 point toolkit on how to bring better broadband in rural areas of the EU.
Support to VP Ansip's Working Group on Digital Entrepreneurship at the UN Broadband Commission
The European Commission will soon launch a call for tenders for a service contract of a maximum value of EUR 50 000.
The purpose of this call for tenders is to support the work of a working group on digital entrepreneurship at the UN Broadband Commission on sustainable development (UN BBC)
Connecting Europe Facility Telecom: EU selects 33 projects and invests over EUR 27 million
The EU will invest over EUR 27 million co-funding projects to further improve European digital services. The evaluation of the first 2017 CEF Telecom call for proposals has concluded and 33 projects were selected.
