Small businesses centre stage for European SME week - 25/05/2010
37 countries host events in support of small business and entrepreneurs.
Europeans looking to start a business or grow an existing company may want to check out some of the hundreds of fairs, conferences and workshops taking place during European SME week.
The week of activities is part of an EU effort to raise awareness of the types and sources of support available to small and mid-sized businesses.
The events include open days at some companies, providing entrepreneurs with a first-hand look at some of the challenges and rewards of running a business.
Some 99% of all European companies are small businesses, with fewer than 250 employees. As major employers and the main source of new jobs, they hold the key to getting the European economy back on a strong growth track.
