From 21 March to 25 April 2016, European citizens were invited to send us up to 3 photos of their favourite ports from Europe with #myportforTurku.
With this, we were hoping to show you some of the 3,000 nautical, fishing, historical, cruise, inland and shipping ports connecting Europe.
It was also a way to wish good luck to the city of Turku, the oldest port in Finland hosting the European Maritime Day from 18 to 22 May.
We are very happy with the results of the competition: thanks to the support of our sponsors, many citizens, organisations, bloggers and journalists, we have received 579 astonishing pictures, representing 166 ports, from 234 authors from 24 countries.
All these can be found on the interactive map below.
The 5 most represented ports are Trieste, Saint-Malo, Hamburg, Venezia and Cork.
The 5 most represented countries are Italy, France, Spain, Germany and Croatia.
The selection of the 50 best entries was very difficult and took time, we are now pleased to announce the 50 winners
Each winner will receive soon a maritime prize (books, free tickets to aquariums and maritime museums, even fish!) from one of our 45 sponsors.
These 50 pictures will go on display in Turku then in several other European locations throughout 2016.
Moreover, the attendees of the European Maritime Day have elected the 10 best ones among the 50 exhibited in Turku. These 10 pictures will stay longer in Turku for public days.
We warmly thank all participants to the #myportforTurku competition, as our enthusiastic sponsors (see below).
