Four films supported by the Creative Europe - MEDIA programme are competing in the 73rd Venice International Film Festival which starts today. The EU has invested around €160,000 to support the development and distribution of Une Vie by Stéphane Brizé, Frantz by François Ozon, Les Beaux Jours d'Aranjuez by Wim Wenders competing in the Venezia 73, and King of the Belgians by Jessica Woodworth and Peter Brosens competing in Orizzonti. Several other EU-funded films are being screened out of competition (more information).

The European Commission has concluded that Ireland granted undue tax benefits of up to €13 billion to Apple. This is illegal under EU state aid rules, because it allowed Apple to pay substantially less tax than other businesses. Ireland must now recover the illegal aid.

Il-Kummissjoni Ewropea sabet li pjanijiet mil-Lussemburgu u Malta biex jappoġġaw il-ġenerazzjoni tal-enerġija minn sorsi rinnovabbli huma konformi mar-regoli tal-UE dwar l-għajnuna mill-Istat. L-iskemi se jżidu l-produzzjoni tal-elettriku minn sorsi rinnovabbli, skont l-objettivi tal-UE dwar l-enerġija, mingħajr ma jfixklu l-kompetizzjoni.

Once again, this year's Skolasajf has been organised through the collaboration of the Foundation for Educational Services, the European Commission Representation in Malta and MEUSAC. Around 11,500 students aged three years upwards registered for this year's Skolasajf which was held between the 13 of July and the 7 of September.

The global climate is changing. However, every citizen, whether old or young, can do something to protect the climate. The Embassies of France, the Netherlands, Germany and the European Commission Representation in Malta have joined forces to launch an image competition for children on the occasion of the European Climate Action Days 2016.
