Trid li tgħid tiegħek dwar x’qed jiġri fl-Unjoni Ewropea, kif qiegħda tittratta l-isfidi ewlenin u kif int tgawdi? Il-Kummissarji Ewropej qegħdin jisimgħu! Id-Djalogi taċ-Ċittadini, fuq l-istil ta’ dibattiti muniċipali, ilhom iseħħu madwar l-UE kollha matul dawn l-aħħar tliet snin. Huma għandhom l-għan li jagħtu liċ-ċittadini Ewropej okkażjoni biex jitkellmu direttament mal-membri tal-Kummissjoni Ewropea, biex isaqsuhom il-mistoqsijiet tagħhom u jesprimu t-tħassib tagħhom b’mod mill-aktar dirett waqt seduta live.

Valletta Summit on migration - 11-12 November 2015

In April 2015, the European Council called for an international summit to discuss migration issues with African and other key countries. The summit will take place in Valletta on 11 and 12 November 2015, and it will mainly focus on: assistance to partner countries; strengthened cooperation on return and better targeting of development cooperation and investments in Africa.


Climate Change Events in Malta

The international community this year has been mobilised to ensure that the upcoming twenty-first session of the Conference of the Parties (COP21) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which will convene in Paris from the November 30 to December 11, will adopt a global, legally binding and dynamic agreement that should come into force in 2020.

Għat-tielet sena konsekuttiva, l-Għaqda tal-Malti – Università għenet fl-organizzazzjoni  u l-kordinazzjoni ta' din iċ-ċelebrazzjoni.


On 7th September, the Europe Direct Central Region has visited St Edwards’s summer school for an EU information session. The Europe Direct team spoke to the children about EU and the environment. Games, videos and quizzes were also part of the educational activity! A group of 25 students benefited from the fun visit and the free educational materials provided.

Europe takes action against long-term unemployment

Long-term unemployment is undoubtedly a critical issue in the European Union. The number of long-term unemployed doubled between 2007 and 2014 and currently accounts for half of total unemployed in the EU. This phenomenon affects 12.1 million people (5% of the active EU population), 61% of whom have been out of work for more than two years. The share of long-term unemployed varies strongly between Member States, ranging from 1.5% in Austria to 19.5% in Greece.

The EU Investment Plan Roadshow in Malta

Friday 4th September 2015, Malta – The EU Investment Plan is expected to mobilise 315 billion euro in the real economy, 75 billion euro of which will be projects undertaken by SMEs. This will be achieved by removing obstacles to investment through the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI), by providing visibility and technical assistance to investment through the European Investment Advisory Hub (EIAH), and offer a transparent portal showcasing viable projects for investors through the European Investment Project Portal.

European Commission Statement following the Vote of the European Parliament in favour of an emergency relocation mechanism for a further 120,000 refugees

Today, the European Parliament has taken an important step by voting in favour of the Commission's proposal for relocation from Italy, Greece and Hungary of 120,000 people in clear need of international protection.


Delivering on the European Agenda on Migration from May, the European Commission is today putting forward a comprehensive package of proposals which will help address the refugee crisis that EU Member States and neighbouring countries are facing, including by tackling the root causes making people seek refuge in Europe. The new set of measures will alleviate pressure from Member States most affected – notably Greece, Italy and Hungary – by proposing to relocate 120,000 people in clear need of international protection to other EU Member States.

President Juncker to deliver his first State of the Union address

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will deliver his first State of the Union address to the European Parliament on Wednesday 9 September. In the address, President Juncker will focus on the big challenges Europe is currently facing, speak about progress in implementing the Commission's ten priorities and outline his political vision for the future of the EU.
