On 23 February, the Commission published its first report on the implementation of the List of Actions to advance LGBTI equality. On that occasion, the Director-General for Justice and Consumers, Tiina Astola presented the main achievements at the High Ministerial Level Conference on LGBTI Mainstreaming in Malta.

On 22 February, the European Commission published its annual analysis of the economic and social challenges – the so-called Country Report – for each Member State, including Malta. The report is a tool under the European Semester for economic policy coordination, to monitor policy reforms and to point early on to challenges that Member States should address, including, where relevant, an assessment of macroeconomic imbalances.

The Commission welcomes the agreement reached at today's ECOFIN on new rules to help prevent tax avoidance via non-EU countries. This latest addition to the EU's anti-tax avoidance toolbox will prohibit multinational companies from escaping corporate tax by exploiting differences between the tax systems of Member States and those of non-EU countries (so-called 'hybrid mismatches').

Today EU Member States agreed on the Commission's proposal to invest €444 million in priority European energy infrastructure projects. The 18 selected electricity, smart grids and gas projects will contribute to achieving the Energy Union's goals by connecting European energy networks, increasing security of energy supply, and contributing to the sustainable development by integrating renewable energy sources across the EU.
