Sakharov Prize, Arab Spring
The European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize for freedom of thought in 2011 went to five representatives of the Arab Spring. Asmaa Mahfouz (Egypt), Ahmed al-Zubair Ahmed al-Sanusi (Libya), Razan Zaitouneh (Syria), Ali Farzat (Syria) and Mohamed Bouazizi (Tunisia) contributed to historic changes, and struggled for freedom, democracy and an end to authoritarian regimes in the Arab world.
We remember them and the ongoing revolution, and analyzethe past and presentsituation with Wael Abbas, an Egyptian blogger and human rights activist.
