Lumiére Film Club
Christian Frei’s movie: A Space tourist (2009) is going to be screened at Lumiére Film Club in September.
More and more multimillionaires are chasing their dreams and travelling to Kazakhstan, where there is a secluded launch station, Baikonur and a training centre, Star city. Soviet cosmonauts used to celebrate their successes here until the space program had been closed down by Gorbachev. Nowadays, space research is being financed by space tourists in Kazakhstan: the third seats are rented by rich Americans for 20 million dollars. This amount takes up only half of the actual costs. One of these tourists is Anousheh Ansari, an American businesswoman.
Space Tourists succeeds in surprising its audience with images and situations that have very little to do with the futuristic fantasy of 'space-tourism'. The filmmakers received an extraordinary opportunity: the movie investigates the emotional background of an affluent enterprise and poses questions about the boundaries of the human spirit and our hunger for adventure and discovery.
The guest of the Film Club is Mr. Bertalan FARKAS, the first Hungarian astronaut.
The host of the Lumiére Film Club is Ms. Dóra GYÁRFÁS, the curator of the evening is Ms. Bori BUJDOSÓ, journalist.
