CENTRAL LIBRARY OF THE COMMISSION

ACCESS CONDITIONS

1. All applications for a Reader's Access Card for the Central Library of the Commission must be made in writing. Applicants must answer the questions presented (over) and provide the documentation requested.

Completed applications should be sent to the following adress:

European Commission, DG EAC-E-4 Central Library of the Commission, Office for Reader's Access Card, VM-18 4/29, B - 1049 Brussels, Open to visitors each working day.

2. The Head of the Unit Central Library of the Commission is the only official authorised to issue Reader's Access Cards. Should an application refused, any request that the application should be re-examined must be submitted in writing.

3. Visitors with a Reader's Access Card have access to the Central Library of the Commission from Monday to Thursday from 10.00 to 17.00, and on Friday from 10.00 to 13.30. No books may be ordered after 16.30 (13.00 on Fridays). The Central Library of the Commission is closed during August. Access can be limited at any time for technical reasons.

4. Each Reader's Card is issued on a personal basis and may be withdrawn at any time if the privilege it confers is abused.

5. Relevant documentation

To meet access criteria applicants must be able to show why they need to consult the publications and documents of the European Union held by the Central Library of the Commission.

Professionals (No more than three representatives of any one firm or organisation may simultaneously hold readers cards).

Proof of appropriate specialisation in European affairs is necessary, either in the form of a letter under a company heading or with a professional visiting card. Requests relating to trainees must indicate the period of traineeship

University Professors

A valid university card.

Diplomats

A photocopy of a residence permit or diplomatic passport.

Officials of the Member States

A photocopy of the official's card or an official visiting card.

Students

Certificate of the university or photocopy of the registration card where the study level appears clearly

N.B. Student's international cards (ISIC) are not accepted as a certificate.

Others

Any other request outside the above mentioned categories must be accompanied by an appropriate letter, reference or certificate
