Using the Central Library

Opening hours

Monday - Thursday from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and Friday from 10.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.

The library is closed in August. The exact closing dates will be announced in What's new? - we suggest you check this site before visiting. Access to the library can also be restricted at any time for technical reasons.

Who can use the library?

All Commission staff, temporary officials and trainees (stagiaires)

Staff from the EU's other institutions and bodies

External visitors.

External visitors

The Central Library is also open to specialists and researchers (professionals, diplomats, civil servants from EU member countries, teachers, university students, etc.) who wish to consult its works on European integration.

They can also ask for a long-term visitor's card (maximum 1 year ).

Note that visitors are not entitled to borrow publications and may only consult works on the spot. No works may be ordered after 4.30 p.m. (1.00 p.m. on Fridays).

 How to apply for a visitor's card

1. You must apply in writing, by filling in the application form and providing the required supporting documents (business card, student card, diplomatic ID or statement from your employer, etc.).

3. You are the only person who can use your visitor's card - if you abuse this rule, the card can be withdrawn at any time.
