Welcome to the new multilingualism website!

This part of the website of the Directorate General for Education and Culture has undergone a complete overhaul. Its new look provides a more user-friendly approach to the subject of languages. Browse through it to find out more about the languages of Europe, discover new ways to learn languages or pick up some new language-teaching tips.

For the moment the new-look website is available in English only.  The French and German versions will be added shortly. The versions in all the other official EU languages will be published just as soon as the translations are ready.

Results of the online consultation on Multilingualism

In autumn 2008, the Commission adopted a Communication on multilingualism,  with proposals for actions that further promote language learning and  linguistic diversity, and address citizens' needs as efficiently as  possible. To this end, an online consultation was launched in autumn 2007 (15 September – 15 November), inviting organisations and individuals to  write their views and expectations concerning language policy.
