Registration for Juvenes Translatores, the annual translation contest for 17-year-old pupils all over Europe, opens on 1 September 2014. Don’t miss it!
Each year, the EU Young Translator Juvenes Translatores contest gives a taste of what it is like to be a translator to over 3 000 teenagers from more than 750 schools across Europe.
The Commission’s translators have been running the contest since 2007 to share their passion for languages. This year, on 27 November, pupils born in 1997 will be invited to try their hand at translating a one-page text on European identity in any of the 552 language combinations possible from among the EU’s 24 official languages.
In April, the winners — one pupil per Member State — will be invited to an award ceremony in Brussels, where each will receive a trophy from the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth.
‘The multicultural nature of the whole contest was a real eye-opener,’ said one of the winners. ‘ The experience left an indelible imprint on my life up till then. It made me feel that I had closed a chapter of my life in the most positive and successful of ways.’
Registration's period: 1 September - 20 October 2014
Give your pupils the opportunity to experience the challenges and pleasures of transforming one language into another!
