Juvenes Translatores is an annual contest organised by the European Commission for 17-year-old pupils to test their translation skills in any of the official languages of the EU.
The contest took place in November 2010, with the participation of more than 3,000 secondary school pupils all around Europe. Each pupil had two hours to translate a one-page text from a language of their choice into any of the EU's 22 other official languages. The translations were then marked by professional translators and one winner was selected for each country.
Apart from the participation in the award ceremony today, the young winners will enjoy a three-day trip to Brussels and have a chance to see and meet EU translators at work in the Commission.
